Overview
The Railroad Coordination Section works with rail companies, ARDOT staff, local officials, and others to coordinate construction projects, inspections, and other highway-related activities occurring within railroad right of way. The Railroad Coordination Section also administers the Railway-Highway Crossing Program (Section 130), the purpose of which is to identify and eliminate hazards at railway-highway at-grade crossings.

- Administer the FHWA Railway-Highway Crossing Program (Section 130).
- Coordinate ARDOT work within railroad right of way with all railroad companies in Arkansas.
- Assist in the development of studies and statewide plans related to railroad activities.

State Rail Plan (2015)
The Arkansas State Rail Plan provides a comprehensive overview of the State’s freight and passenger rail system. The Plan includes (among other contents) an inventory of rail assets; discussion of passenger rail service; analysis of the economic impacts of freight rail service; trends and forecasts; infrastructure needs and opportunities; and a long-range investment program.
