Federal laws require that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and ARDOT address the potential impacts our projects may have on federally listed species in order to identify, avoid, and minimize those impacts. The Endangered Species Act of 1973 (ESA) provides protection for threatened and endangered species and their habitats that are designated critical to the survival of these species. The ESA additionally requires FHWA and ARDOT to consult with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) regarding our projects and conservation measures that can be implemented to minimize or avoid project impacts to these species.
Please visit the USFWS Arkansas Ecological Service Field Office website for more information regarding Arkansas’s federally listed species.
